Wesfarmers Chemical, Energy and Fertilisers (WesCEF) is excited to announce the recipients of its 2022-23 WesCEF Community Grants program.

WesCEF has been operating in the Kwinana and Rockingham community for over 80 years through its divisional businesses Kleenheat and CSBP.

The program saw $23,000 awarded to six community groups from the Kwinana and Rockingham areas, including, for the first time, three not-for-profit Aboriginal organisations. This brings the total value of grants awarded since the program began in 2017 to $98,000.

WesCEF Managing Director Ian Hansen said that the decision to expand the grants to include Aboriginal groups stemmed from WesCEF’s commitment to reconciliation, and that the organisation’s support of Aboriginal-focused initiatives extends beyond the workplace and into the community.

“At WesCEF we believe that all businesses have an important role to play in developing a more equitable, just and harmonious society, particularly through supporting reconciliation and strengthening relationships between the Aboriginal community and socially responsible organisations,” Mr Hansen said.

WesCEF has a long-standing presence in the Kwinana and Rockingham areas through its CSBP and Kleenheat businesses . Many of our people, including our Aboriginal employees, live and work in the area, giving us a closer connection and understanding of the local community.”

“This connection has allowed WesCEF to build long-term relationships with Aboriginal organisations, listening to these groups and tailoring our grant programs to what they need and what can most meaningfully support their community.”

Four $2,000 grants were awarded to:

  • Bungaree Primary School to create a native Aboriginal garden.
  • East Waikiki Primary School to support an after-school robotics club.
  • South East Regional Centre for Urban Landscape to purchase electrical equipment to monitor nesting and breeding of local brush-tailed phascogales (small marsupials).
  • City of Rockingham Library for an after-school ‘Girls in STEM’ program.

Two $5,000 grants were awarded to:

  • Kwinana Djindas Grassroots Netball Club for a mixed community netball carnival.
  • Moorditj Koort Aboriginal Corporation for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Workshop Series.
