‘Variety’ is the first word that comes to mind for Brittany Dalgetty when asked to describe her traineeship at WesCEF. The friendly 18-year-old is WesCEF’s newest administration team member based at Murdoch reception.
In November 2016, Brittany commenced a 12-month Traineeship in Cert III in Business with Time Training, completing her work experience at WesCEF.
“I had no idea what I wanted to do after school, but I knew I wanted to gain experience in reception and administration,” she said.
As well as being the smiling face that greets visitors, Brittany is building her skills in other areas of the team including helping out the mailroom, processing invoices, arranging building maintenance and assisting employees with day-to-day bookings and queries.
Brittany attributes her new-found confidence to the traineeship opportunity.
“One of the biggest challenges about working on reception was facing my shyness,” she said.
“I am proud of achieving a fulltime traineeship with WesCEF; it helped me finish my schooling and gave me the confidence to deal with difficult situations along the way.”
Brittany’s manager Ann Chappell echoes her sentiments.
“Brittany’s confidence has flourished and willingness to learn makes her a valued team member,” she said.
Brittany was offered her opportunity through WesCEF’s partnership with South Metro Youth Link (SMYL) Community Services, a not-for-profit service provider supporting people and communities to make positive changes for their future.
WesCEF and SMYL joined forces in 2014 with the aim of supporting Aboriginal youth in the Kwinana/Rockingham area to build future capability and workplace experience through school-based traineeships.
Since then, five senior high school students have participated school-based traineeships including Brittany, who completed a part-time traineeship on reception at CSBP and Murdoch while she finished school, moving to her current, full-time traineeship after she graduated Year 12.
